NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Harpreet Kaur Babla has won the mayoral election in Chandigarh. She defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s Prem Lata by a margin of seven votes, securing 19 out of 36 votes in the election.
Notably, three of these votes came from cross-voting, indicating dissatisfaction within the opposition alliance. Babla’s victory, despite the AAP-Congress alliance, marks a crucial political shift.
In the same election, Congress candidates Jasbir Bunty and Taruna Mehta won the positions of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.
