BAREILLY: A dentist who raped a 28-year-old married woman after administering her sedative during treatment in UP’s Bareilly on Oct 16, 2021, was sentenced to 10 years in jail, along with a fine of Rs 25,000. The fast track court of ADJ Raghvendra Mani found the dentist guilty under sections of “rape” and “criminal intimidation” and delivered the verdict on Saturday.
The woman had visited Ravendra Prakash Sharma’s clinic in the city alone when the latter allegedly gave her a sedative first and then violated her. He also filmed the sexual assault and used the video to put pressure on her not to talk about it.
ADGC Santosh Srivastava said on Sunday: “The survivor’s husband noticed that his wife was constantly troubled by a certain matter and then found out what actually happened. An FIR under IPC sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 (voluntarily causing hurt by means of poison) and 354C (act of capturing the image of a woman in an act) was registered following a complaint by the husband at Izzatnagar thana on Nov 3. The accused was arrested and sent to jail.”
Since the case was registered after some delay and the woman’s medico-legal examination was “late”, the report couldn’t confirm the possibility of sexual assault. The court, however, found her statement and the circumstantial evidence as “sufficient to nail the accused”, the ADGC added.
The ADGC said, “The court also took into consideration that the heinous act brought issues into the married life of the victim and ensured strict punishment against the accused.”
