Pushpa 2 on OTT woos international audience; Allu Arjun's fight scene has netizens asking 'Was this directed by Zack Snyder?'

The Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule has gained remarkable international recognition following its digital debut. The film, directed by Sukumar, which captivated the Indian audiences and scored one of the biggest box office runs, has now drawn praise from global viewers, including former Mayor of Missouri, United States, Joel Stoner.
Stoner’s comment on social media, in which he called Pushpa 2 “better than modern US movies,” has gone viral, sparking excitement among fans. Social media platforms, particularly Twitter, have been flooded with clips from the film, particularly an intense action sequence featuring Allu Arjun. One page posted the scene with the caption, “Action scene from an Indian movie.” Reacting to the post, Stoner wrote, “Better than some of the modern US movies.”

The viral moment quickly led to comparisons with Hollywood, with some users even wondering if the film was directed by renowned filmmaker Zack Snyder, known for his signature slow-motion shots. One tweeted, “Was this directed by Zack Snyder?” Others noted the film’s exaggerated physics but appreciated its cinematic appeal, with one user commenting, “I don’t mind the bad physics if it looks cool like this… great scene.” Another tweet read, “This is pure cinema, better than most modern Marvel movies.”

The discussion even extended to the idea of Indian filmmakers helming live-action anime adaptations, with a user stating, “Somebody let these Indian directors make a live-action anime movie. They’d cook.” Another user wrote, “Pushpa really wasn’t lying when he said he’s gone international.”

Amidst the growing global appreciation, Allu Sirish, the younger brother of lead actor Allu Arjun, expressed his delight at the film’s widespread recognition. Sharing one of the viral tweets, Sirish wrote, “I am glad Pushpa 2 is receiving insane love from Western audiences as well, especially for a film like this, which is vastly different from their culture or something they’re not too familiar with. @alluarjun @aryasukku @ThisIsDSP @MythriOfficial.”

Since its release, Pushpa 2: The Rule has shattered box office records, solidifying its place as the biggest film of 2024. The film has not only inaugurated the over Rs 800 crore club in Hindi but has also crossed the Rs 1800 crore mark globally, making it India’s highest-grossing film to date.
