Infosys, had fired 240 entry-level employees who failed to pass internal assessment tests, according to company emails sent on April 18. This follows a similar round of layoffs in February when the company dismissed over 300 trainees.
The terminated employees, hired as System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers, were unable to meet the qualifying criteria in the ‘Generic foundation training program’ despite receiving additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, multiple mock assessments, and three testing attempts.

Fired trainees get free upskilling program, travel allowance, and other support options from the company

To ease the transition, Infosys is offering several support options to the affected employees. These include one month’s pay, accommodation at the Mysore training center, and a travel allowance to either Bengaluru or their hometown.
“As you explore opportunities outside of Infosys, we have planned professional outplacement services to help you on that journey,” stated the termination email sent to affected trainees. The email continued, “We also wish to offer you another career pathway, by taking an Infosys sponsored external training to prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry.”
Additionally, the company is providing free upskilling programs through partnerships with NIIT and UpGrad, extending this opportunity to those dismissed in February as well. Affected trainees can choose between a 12-week training program to prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry or a 24-week training program on Information Technology fundamentals.
