The internet exploded with reports today confirming the divorce of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma. Stories of the two being officially divorced with the necessary formalities being completed on February 20 went viral. It was said the hearing took place at Mumbai’s Bandra court on Thursday.
However, Dhanashree’s lawyer, Advocate Aditi Mohoni in a statement shared with Bombay Times, clarified, “The matter is currently sub judice. The media should fact-check before reporting, as a lot of misleading information is being circulated.”
It was also alleged that Chahal had reportedly paid ₹60 crore as alimony as part of the divorce settlement. These speculative reports led to massive outrage against Dhanashree with trolls jumping to label her as an opportunist and a gold digger.
Dhanashree’s family member on condition of anonymity told Bombay Times, “We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear. No such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumors whatsoever. It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation. It only causes harm, and we urge the media to exercise restraint and fact-check before spreading misinformation and also be respectful towards everyone’s privacy.”
Chahal had married Dhanashree in December 2020.
