ARARIA: A Bihar assistant subinspector died when a mob of villagers attacked a police team and freed a notorious criminal late Wednesday in Araria district. Rajiv Ranjan Mall was leading the team to apprehend Anmol Yadav from a wedding in the district’s Phulkaha area when the cops came under siege.
The 45-year-old ASI collapsed, lost consciousness and was declared dead when rushed to Araria Sadar Hospital. SP Anjani Kumar said the exact cause of death would be known after the post-mortem report. Mall, a native of Munger district, is survived by his wife and two minor daughters.
Six of Anmol’s supporters were arrested on Thursday but he remained untraced. Acting on a tip-off, Mall led the raid to the wedding in Lakshmipur village and took Anmol into custody. However, as the cops attempted to take him to the police station, a mob of villagers gathered and launched the attack.
